How I Became An Early Bird

So... about 6 years ago, if someone would have shown me a crystal ball into my current morning routine, I would have laughed in their face. Six years ago I was addicted to the snooze button, I pushed it to the last second getting up and I was always rushing to get out the door for work. Definitely not the way to set my day up for success. I had this limiting belief that I was not a morning person. That I could not wake up and work out or even have time for anything besides brushing my teeth and throwing on clothes and mascara. When I met my husband, he was a 4:30 am gym freak... I thought he was crazy and I stayed in bed while he went to the gym. Over the last few years, I started learning about high performance habits from Brendan Buchard, and morning routines from Rachel Hollis and then finally the kicker, sleep inertia from Mel Robbins. I released my snooze happy habits were actually making things worse. About 2 years ago, I really committed to getting up to hit the gym before work. We joined a 24 hour facility so we could arrive by 5 am and be done by 6 am. There were many days we used our "back up alarm," but overall we were building a strong morning routine. Why do I tell you this? Well, because there is an enormous amount of research to support that getting up earlier and creating a space to exercise, meditate, show gratitude and review your day before allowing the demands of work, family and life to interfere, can really push the needle on your productivity and overall well being. I know... I know... you just can't do it, you are not a morning person. Well... I am here to tell you, I wasn't either... ask my husband, and by changing my belief, I was able to build this routine which I have grown to crave and love. So, if I can do it, you can to.

Getting my Hygge on today…

Rather fitting that the Daily Ritual in my Silk and Sonder Journal was all about Hygge yesterday, and today we have temps below 70° here...
